About glof-ii project
Climate change poses a serious threat to the fragile ecosystems and communities of Northern Pakistan, where rising temperatures are accelerating glacial melt. This has led to an increase in Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) – sudden, powerful floods that endanger lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure.
To address these growing risks, the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, in collaboration with UNDP Pakistan and with support from the Green Climate Fund, is implementing the GLOF-II Project.
Through GLOF-II’s climate adaptation mechanisms, the project directly benefits 696,342 people – with a gender-balanced approach supporting 348,171 men and 348,171 women by equipping communities with the knowledge, tools, and infrastructure needed to better prepare for and respond to GLOFs and other climate-induced disasters.

GLOF-II INTERVENTIONS
Introduction
The GLOF-II Project aims to strengthen the climate resilience of vulnerable communities across 24 valleys in 10 districts of Gilgit-Baltistan and 8 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
GLOF-II adopts a comprehensive, multi-tiered approach to disaster risk reduction, focusing on:
- Enhancing institutional capacity at national and sub-national levels for climate-responsive planning
- Strengthening community-based Early Warning Systems (EWS)
- Promoting long-term climate adaptation through localized trainings and risk reduction strategies
Grievance Redressal Mechanism
The Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) Terms & Conditions outline the procedures, guidelines, and responsibilities associated with addressing and resolving grievances within an organization. Begin by stating the purpose of the Grievance Redressal Mechanism, emphasizing its importance in fostering a fair and transparent work environment.

GLOF-II's Gender Action Plan
The Project aims to gender mainstream its interventions despite the socio-cultural barriers and gender norms prevalent in the Project valleys to enhance inclusion and amplify the Project’s impact for sustainability.
To date, despite gendered barriers, a total of 295,176 (49%) women and girls have benefitted from the Project’s infrastructural interventions, while 23,746 (41%) women and girls have benefitted from various trainings, mock drills, awareness sessions, and workshops delivered by the Project.
Access the Project’s Gender Action Plan, and Gender Needs Assessment for more information on the Project’s livelihood interventions to support women’s economic empowerment.
