About the GLOF-II Project

Climate change poses a serious threat to the fragile ecosystems and communities of Northern Pakistan, where rising temperatures are accelerating glacial melt. This has led to an increase in Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) – sudden, powerful floods that endanger lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure.

To address these growing risks, the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, in collaboration with UNDP Pakistan and with support from the Green Climate Fund, is implementing the GLOF-II Project.

Through GLOF-II’s climate adaptation mechanisms, the project directly benefits 696,342 people – with a gender-balanced approach supporting 348,171 men and 348,171 women by equipping communities with the knowledge, tools, and infrastructure needed to better prepare for and respond to GLOFs and other climate-induced disasters.
